Hanauma Bay Travel Deals and Food Guide
The food of Hanauma Bay is a blend of Eastern and Western tastes most prominently featuring American and Japanese influences with entrees such as hamburger steak and fried chicken atop rice and mac salad. There are names of some common dishes which may sound unfamiliar to you. Loco moco is hamburger steak with eggs and gravy. Katsu chicken and mochiko chicken both refer to fried chicken, with the latter breaded with rice powder instead of flour. The curry that is popular here is the Japanese stew-like variant learned from the British. You will encounter plenty of canned Spam meat here, introduced to the islands to feed soldiers during World War II, and became a local favorite in Hanauma Bay.
For the more health minded visitor, there are Whole Foods Markets in Waikiki and Kailua, along with it's local version called Down to Earth. Down to Earth features vegan foods which are surprisingly delicious. Aside from Spam and the occasional MSG, people in Hanauma Bay are generally health concious, preferring natural and locally grown foods.
Poke is seafood cut into cubes including raw fish, most often tuna, but also salmon and marlin. A popular flavor for raw tuna is a California roll like combination of mayonaisse and Sriracha sause commonly referred to simply as 'spicy'. Poke bowls served over rice start at around $6.99 in supermarkets.
You can expect to pay $10 and up for a hearty portion dish typical of Hanauma Bay. However there are specials to be found all over such as $5 plates, happy hour deals, and $1 tacos depending on the day. Let us know your preferred cuisine and location and we'll direct you to the best food for the best price taking all such factors into consideration.

A Tour of Food and Deals in Hanauma Bay
Hanauma is a marine embayment formed within a tuff ring and located along the southeast coast of the Island of Oʻahu in the Hawaii Kai neighborhood of East Honolulu, in the Hawaiian Islands. Hanauma is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Island and has suffered somewhat from overuse (at one time accommodating over three million visitors per year). In 1956, dynamite was used to clear portions of the reef to make room for telephone cables linking Hawaii to the west coast of the US. Hanauma is both a Nature Preserve and a Marine Life Conservation District (the first of several established in the State of Hawaiʻi). Reflecting changes in attitude, its name has changed over time from Hanauma Bay Beach Park to Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve. Visitors are required by law to refrain from mistreating marine animals or from touching, walking, or otherwise having contact with coral heads, which appear much like large rocks on the ocean floor (here, mostly seaward of the shallow fringing reef off the beach). About 400 species of fish are known to inhabit the bay. Hanauma Bay is known for its abundance of Green sea turtles, Chelonia mydas, known as Honu. Hanauma is a nursery ground for the immature turtles, which have their nesting grounds at French Frigate Shoals. It is also known for its abundance of parrotfish.
